Saves and progress
- Where is my progress kept? In one file on your machine,
rewritten as you play:
- Windows —
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\missroot\Please Stop the Rain\save.json - macOS —
~/Library/Application Support/missroot/Please Stop the Rain/save.json - Linux —
~/.config/unity3d/missroot/Please Stop the Rain/save.json
- Windows —
- My progress is gone. If the file could not be read, the
game does not delete it: it renames it to
save.json.badin the same folder and starts fresh. Send us that file and we will tell you what is recoverable.
If you use Cloud sync, do this before you play another run: go to Settings → Cloud, sign out, and sign back in. That is what fetches the cloud copy — the Sync row will not, because this machine still believes the empty record is the one it last agreed with. Play first and the empty record is what gets saved to the cloud. - Can I move my save to another machine? Copy
save.jsoninto the same folder there, or sign in to Cloud sync on both and let it carry the record for you.
Cloud sync
- What is it? Optional, under Settings → Cloud. Type an email address, type the six-digit code that arrives, and the record follows you to any machine you sign in on. What it stores is set out in the Privacy Policy.
- The tab says “off”. That build shipped without a cloud key, so the record simply stays on the machine. Nothing is wrong and nothing is lost.
- The code never arrived. Check the spam folder first.
The mailer is rate-limited, so a burst of requests answers
too many tries— wait a few minutes and ask for one more. - Two machines disagree. Whichever record was not touched since it last synced gives way to the other. If both were played offline, the one with more playtime wins. Nothing is merged field by field, so finish a run before you switch machines if you can.
- Signing out. It clears the account from that machine only. The record stays both on the machine and in the cloud.
- Delete my cloud data. Email us from the address you signed in with — see Deleting your data.
Controls
- Keyboard and mouse. W A S D to walk, or hold the mouse on the field and she walks to it. Enter confirms, Esc goes back, Tab is menu and stats.
- Rebinding. Settings → Controls, pick a line, press the key you want. Whatever held that key takes the one you took, so no action is ever left without a key. There is a Reset to defaults at the bottom.
- Controllers are not supported yet.
Display and comfort
- Settings → Video holds fullscreen, VSync and a frame limit.
- The same tab turns off rain, the lightning flash, hit pulses, damage numbers and screen shake, one at a time. If the weather is uncomfortable to look at, those are the switches — the game stays playable with every one of them off.
- Sound cuts out when I alt-tab. That is Quiet unfocused in Settings → Audio, on by default.
- Languages. English only for now.
Purchases and refunds
- In-game purchases. None today. The Peddler’s till is shut until Steam’s purchase flow is wired in, and no build takes real money before then. The patch notes will say so on the day that changes.
- Refunds are handled by Valve, not by us, under the Steam Refund Policy. Ask through Steam Support and it goes to the same place a refund for any other game does.
Reporting a bug
Send the log with it — it is a plain text file, and it usually says in one line what took us an afternoon to guess:
- Windows —
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\missroot\Please Stop the Rain\Player.log - macOS —
~/Library/Logs/missroot/Please Stop the Rain/Player.log - Linux —
~/.config/unity3d/missroot/Please Stop the Rain/Player.log
If the game crashed, the log from the run that crashed is the one we need.
Launching again moves it aside to Player-prev.log in the same
folder and starts a fresh Player.log, so send us whichever of
the two covers the crash — and copy it before a second relaunch, which
drops it for good.
